Flint’s problems have been headline news for weeks now, and although the city has reversed the actions that put lead into the water, the toxic metal has now invaded pipes throughout the city. Many children have been affected with damage that physicians say is “irreversible.”
Tamarha Ellerbe, president of the Teaneck Rotary, and newly-inducted Rotarian Richard Stanard are spearheading the clean water drive, that Stanard says will be “massive.”
Standard is CEO of King Richard Auto Group in Teterboro and a deacon at Community Baptist Church in Englewood.
Also formerly the president of the General Baptist Convention Laymen, Stanard is working with the Rotaries, spearheaded by Teaneck, and with churches in New Jersey and Michigan to make sure the clean water “gets to people most affected.”
The Teaneck Rotary Club intends to use community outreach and will act as a catalyst with organizations, churches and community leaders. Financial donations will be used to purchase water and supplies, which will be transported to the hardest hit areas of Flint.
